General queries & switching
How do I switch to Voltx?
It is easy to switch to Voltx in three simple steps:
- Check your current supplier contract for its notice period and any termination or exit charges. Then get a quote from the Voltx Team.
- Once you agree to the quote and sign the contract, give your current supplier 30 days notice. We will register your supply start date.
- On your transfer date, you will receive a welcome email with useful information about your supply. If you do not have a smart meter, provide an electricity meter reading within five days either side of your switch date / supply start date. This helps make sure your closing bill from your old supplier and opening bill from Voltx Power are accurate.

Additional charges: Climate Change Levy (CCL) is a government environmental tax on business energy and is charged on units used. DUoS (Distribution Use of System) charges may include availability (KVA / Agreed Supply Capacity), excess availability, reactive power, daily or standing charges, and unit rates. Unit rates may be split into Red, Amber and Green time bands set by the regional distribution company. Applicable charges depend on your meter type and product. Business energy VAT is generally 20%; qualifying businesses may be eligible for the 5% rate. The supplied information says average usage must be no more than 33 kWh per day or 1,000 kWh per month to qualify.
Meter read keys: C = Customer, E = Estimate, D = Deemed, R = Routine, S = Smart, O = Opening, F = Final, I = Initial, T = Reconcile Read.
How are the contract rates calculated?
Contract rates include the energy component, BSUoS and RCRC, Contracts for Difference (CFD), Feed-in Tariff (FIT), Renewable Obligation (RO), AAHEDC, Capacity Market, settlement charges, DUoS, TNUoS and, where applicable, Meter Operator (MOP), Data Collector (DC) and Data Aggregator (DA) charges.
Contract rates do not include excess capacity charges or reactive power charges where applicable to half-hourly meters, Climate Change Levy (CCL), or VAT.
What is estimated usage or an estimated meter reading?
If we do not receive an actual meter reading, we estimate your consumption based on your usage for that month. To avoid estimates, send us a meter reading and a photograph of your meter towards the end of your billing cycle. We appreciate an actual reading at least once every 4 to 6 months so we can understand your consumption pattern.
Metering
What types of electricity meter are there, and how do I read them?
Electricity meters include electromechanical, electronic, smart and digital types. Your meter may be single-rate or multi-rate.
- Single-rate revolving disk: Read left to right and ignore figures in red or inside a red box. Example: 44955.3.
- Single-rate digital: Read left to right and ignore figures after the decimal point. Example: 44378.34.
- Single-rate dial: Dials turn in alternating directions. Read left to right, taking the lower number if a pointer is between two numbers. If it points directly at a number, record that number. Do not read the last dial on the right. Example: 44928.
- Two-rate revolving disk: Read both rows from left to right and ignore red figures. Low is night/off-peak; Normal is day/peak. Example readings: 251997 (Low) and 133995 (Normal).
- Two-rate digital: Record both readings from left to right and ignore figures after the decimal point. Example readings: 44378.34 and 65404.65.
What are Economy 7 and Economy 10 meters?
Economy 7 meters record separate daytime and night readings. A discounted rate usually applies for seven hours each night.
Economy 10 offers ten discounted off-peak hours, usually three in the afternoon, two in the evening and five overnight. These meters record energy used during off-peak hours separately from daily usage.
How do I submit a meter reading?
Please provide a reading at the start of your contract and when you plan to change your arrangements with us. We appreciate an actual reading at least once every 4 to 6 months. Send your reading by:

Nuclear RAB
What is the RAB Levy Charge?
The Nuclear Regulated Asset Base (RAB) Levy is a government-mandated charge introduced by the Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) under the direction of DESNZ and Ofgem. It helps fund new nuclear generation projects that support the UKs transition to low-carbon energy.
Why is this charge being added to my electricity bill?
The LCCC has mandated this charge to help fund new nuclear generation. All licensed electricity suppliers, including Voltx Power, must collect the levy from customers and remit it accordingly.
How much is the RAB Levy Charge?
The supplied information states that the Interim Levy Rate (ILR) was 3.540 per MWh of electricity supplied from 1 December 2025 to 31 December 2025. The rate may change in the future.
Is the RAB Levy a statutory or commercial charge?
It is a statutory charge, not a commercial one. It applies to energy consumers in Great Britain and is collected by energy suppliers.
Does the RAB Levy vary depending on my energy usage?
Yes. The charge varies with the amount of energy you use.
When does this charge take effect?
The supplied information states that the RAB Levy Charge took effect from 1 December 2025.
Can Voltx Power waive or remove this charge?
No. As a government-mandated levy, Voltx Power cannot alter, remove or absorb it on behalf of customers.
Where does the money collected from this levy go?
The LCCC determines the charge level and total reserve amount on behalf of the government. Funds collected from suppliers finance the Nuclear RAB scheme, which supports nuclear power infrastructure development in the UK.
Will this charge be reviewed or changed in the future?
Yes. The LCCC or relevant regulatory authority may review and adjust the RAB Levy periodically.
Understanding MHHS
What is Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS)?
MHHS is an industry-wide reform that changes how electricity consumption is recorded and used for settlement in Great Britain. Instead of relying mainly on estimated consumption patterns for many customers, the new system makes greater use of actual half-hourly electricity data where available.
Why is MHHS being introduced?
MHHS aims to make electricity settlement more accurate and efficient. It will help suppliers better understand when electricity is used and support the development of more flexible energy tariffs and services in the future.
How will MHHS benefit my business?
MHHS may provide opportunities for better visibility of electricity usage, more accurate industry settlement and new energy products designed around how and when businesses consume electricity. These benefits will depend on your meter type and the services available.
When will MHHS take effect?
MHHS is being introduced gradually across Great Britain. Voltx Power plans to begin migrating customer electricity meters from 26 October 2026, with migration continuing in phases. The industry-wide meter migration deadline is 7 May 2027.
Does MHHS apply to all electricity customers?
Yes. MHHS is an industry-wide change affecting domestic and non-domestic electricity customers, including customers with smart, advanced and traditional meters. The way consumption data is obtained may vary depending on the meter type.
Meters and meter readings
Will I need to change my electricity meter?
Not necessarily. MHHS does not automatically require a meter replacement. Existing compatible meters can continue to operate. If your meter needs attention or an upgrade, Voltx Power will advise you.
What if I don't have a smart meter?
You can still be included in MHHS. Traditional meters are supported under the new arrangements, although estimated consumption profiles may continue to be used where actual half-hourly data is unavailable. You should continue submitting meter readings as required.
Will I still need to submit meter readings?
If you have a traditional meter, please continue providing regular readings. If you have a smart or advanced meter, automatic readings may be available, but we may still request a reading if there is a communication or data issue.
Will my electricity supply be interrupted during MHHS migration?
MHHS migration is primarily a change to industry systems and settlement processes. It does not ordinarily involve interrupting your electricity supply. If a separate meter visit is required, we will communicate the arrangements.
What if my smart meter stops communicating?
Please contact Voltx Power if you suspect a meter communication issue. We may ask for a manual meter reading while we investigate and work with the relevant metering service provider.
Billing, pricing and contracts
Will MHHS increase my electricity bill?
MHHS does not automatically increase your electricity bill. Your charges will continue to depend on your contract, tariff, usage and applicable industry charges. Any future changes will be communicated in accordance with your contractual terms.
Will my existing electricity contract change?
MHHS migration does not, by itself, mean that you need a new electricity supply contract. Your existing contractual terms continue to apply unless changes are made in accordance with the contract and applicable requirements.
Will I be charged differently every 30 minutes?
Not necessarily. Half-hourly settlement and half-hourly pricing are different. If you are on a fixed-rate tariff, MHHS does not automatically convert it into a variable or time-of-use tariff. Your charges will follow your agreed tariff.
Will my billing change frequently?
MHHS does not automatically change your billing frequency. You should continue receiving bills according to your existing billing arrangements unless Voltx Power notifies you otherwise.
Will the information on my electricity bill change?
Some industry identifiers and metering information may change as part of MHHS. For example, the MPAN top-line information may be updated, and MOP/DA/DC will be updated to Metering Services and Data Services. These changes do not necessarily mean your meter, supply point or rates have changed.
Will MHHS affect my day and night electricity rates?
MHHS does not automatically remove an existing day-and-night or multi-rate tariff. Any changes to your tariff structure will depend on your contract and the metering arrangements applicable to your supply.
Does MHHS guarantee lower electricity bills?
No. MHHS is intended to support a more efficient electricity system and may enable new tariff options over time, but individual bill savings are not guaranteed.
Migration and switching
Do I need to take any action for MHHS?
In most cases, no immediate action is required. Voltx Power will manage the industry migration process. Please keep your contact details up to date and continue providing meter readings where needed.
How will I know when my meter has moved to MHHS?
Voltx Power is introducing MHHS in phases. If you need information about your meter's migration status, contact our customer support team. We will communicate any changes that require your action.
Can I switch electricity suppliers during the MHHS transition?
Yes. The introduction of MHHS does not prevent you from switching electricity suppliers. Switching will continue under the applicable industry processes, including during the transition period.
What if I have multiple electricity meters or sites?
If your business has several MPANs or sites, they may migrate to MHHS at different times. Voltx Power will manage each electricity supply point in accordance with the industry migration arrangements.
What happens if there is an issue during migration?
Voltx Power will work with relevant industry service providers to investigate and resolve migration issues. If an issue affects your meter readings or billing, we may contact you for additional information.
Data privacy and further support
Will Voltx Power have access to my half-hourly electricity usage data?
MHHS introduces new arrangements for using electricity consumption data for settlement. Access to detailed data is subject to applicable regulatory and data protection requirements, including rules that depend on customer and meter type.
Will my electricity consumption data be kept secure?
Voltx Power handles personal data in accordance with applicable data protection laws and relevant energy industry requirements. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for further information.
Does MHHS apply to gas as well?
No. MHHS applies to electricity market settlement and does not directly change your gas meter or gas supply arrangements.
Who should I contact if I have questions about MHHS?
If you have questions about your electricity meter, billing, contract or the MHHS transition, contact the Voltx Power customer support team at support@voltxpower.co.uk.
